Finishing university and stepping into the industry as a freelancer has been one of the most exciting and uncertain transitions of my life so far. There isn’t a clear roadmap once you leave education, and that can feel overwhelming at times but it’s also where real growth begins. I’ve quickly learned that this stage is less about having everything figured out, and more about being open, adaptable, and willing to learn as you go.
Creating Our Jay: Every Second Counts Our Jay: Every Second Counts was a documentary project that began as an idea in July 2025. After learning more about the work of The Our Jay Foundation and the story behind it, I contacted Naomi with the idea of creating a documentary focused on the foundation’s mission and the impact it continues to make. Naomi was supportive of the idea straight away, which gave me the confidence to begin developing the project further.
In the summer of 2025, I applied for the Maya Jama mentorship programme, an initiative created by Maya Jama in collaboration with her wider network to support women trying to enter or grow within the creative industries. The programme aimed to offer guidance and mentorship across a range of fields, including television, fashion, and business, providing real insight from people actively working in the industry.
